Round 4 Wedlock Plant Hire Autocross Championship 1st July 2007
Lipsett leaves it late but takes the win.
Stephen Lipsett was pushed hard all the way as he took his little Peugeot 106 to another overall win in Round 4 of the Mervyn Wedlock Plant Hire Sponsored Autocross Championship in Latton on Sunday. A damp track greeted the 37 Starters on the first of the three timed runs and left driving conditions slippery. Fastest out of the blocks on the first run was Ballyhaise man Joseph Smith in his Escort followed closely by Trevor Lancashire also in a Escort with young Scott Winslow having a great drive in his Nova in 3rd place.
With reports of torrential rain falling locally a good time on the second run was essential for the front runners to hold on to their positions. Joseph Smith again topped the time sheets with Trevor Lancashire holding on to his 2nd place, Stephen Lipsett had now moved up to 3rd and Scott Winslow had slipped back to 4th with Mark Wedlock in 5th. Thankfully the threat of rain eased and the drivers were basking in the Latton sunshine for the last run. Stephen Lipsett topped the time sheets with a 2.09.47 setting the fastest time of the day which was just enough to take the overall win by two tenths of a second from Joseph Smith with Mark Wedlock setting a scorching time on the last run to take 3rd place overall, Barry Mc Ardle took 4th overall and Scott Winslow was in 5th.

Last week the people of Cavan had the unique opportunity to see some wonderful old cars from as far a field as Australia, USA, France, Holland the UK and Ireland as they took part in The 5th Emerald Isle Classic Retrospective Rally. The Rally Route which was a 1300 Kilometre trek around the Northern half of Ireland started in Fermanagh and finished up in Trim Co Meath. The Rally itself consisted of various Regularity Tests, Road Sections and Navigation Trials. On Wednesday evening the cars arrived at the Errigal House Hotel, Cootehill before commencing a Navigation Trial taking in some prime navigation territory in counties Cavan and Monaghan. Then on Thursday morning after an early breakfast they headed for the Hutt Cross Track, Latton for a Sprint Test of one lap in each direction around the circuit. The Smiles on the Faces as they completed their laps showed that their little blast around the Hutt Cross circuit was much enjoyed by all the competitors and the only damage damage inflicted to the vintage machinery was a broken headlight. After some refreshments and a bacon roll they were off again to complete another test in Navan before heading to the Finish in Trim.
The AC Ace was the first of its type in Australia and Competed in the 1955 Australian Gran Prix.
The Volvo won the Masters Section of the event.
The Morris Minor on its way to winning the Clubmans Section.

Round 3 Wedlock Plant Hire Autocross Championship 1st April 2007.
Jess takes the honours.
Gavin Jess kicks up the dust in Latton on his way to victory.
After a cautious start on the first run while he accustomed himself to the hutcross track Gavin Jess put in a stunning drive to take the honours on his first outing in Latton in his little 1600cc Metro. Championship Sponsor Mervyn Wedlock was at the top of the time sheets after the first run with Ronnie Coulter in second and current champion Joseph Smith back in third place. The second run saw Jess fastest, with Mervyn Wedlock leading overall after the 2 runs with Jess second Coulter third and Smith now holding fourth place. With the ever improving conditions and a clean track the specators were in for a treat over the final run. Gavin Jess put in a blazing run with fastest time of the day on a 2.02.82 to take the Overall win from a hard charging Mervyn Wedlock and Ronnie Coulter holding on to his third position.
Class 1: Was dominated by Tommy Donlon with Alan Pickens second and Brendan O Reilly third. Class 2 : Saw Daniel McKenna return to Latton full of confidence after his superb Class 10 win in Mayo and promptly won the class with Shane Mc Girr second and Ronan Rudden third.
Class 3 : Was won by Stephen Lipsett, he was hoping to make it 6 Overall wins in a row but the very dry conditions didnt suit him on the day and he eventually had to settle for the Class win and 8th Overall, second was Sam Moffet in his Peugeot With Columba Heena third.
Class 4 : Joseph Smith took the win from an out of retirement Ollie Mc Cormick showing he hadnt lost his touch in second with Stephen Kellet in third.
Class 5 : Mervyn Wedlock took the win with Ronnie Coulter second and Donegal man Pete Greene in third.
Juniors : Jonathan Leonard was fastest of the bunch after a scare on his practice run when he ended up on his side, thankfully damage was light and he continued to take the win local man Damien O Reilly was second and Stephen Mc Cann in third.
Circuit of Kerry Rally 1st April 2007.
Patrick Elliott netts first win of the season in Kerry.
Patrick Elliott with Paul Goodman on the notes took his Subaru to victory in round 2 of the Dunlop National Championship Stages Rally the Circuit of Kerry on Sunday. It was a good event for Patrick making up for the disappointment of a non finish in Mayo beating one of his main championship contenders Aaron Mc Hale and Derek Brannigan by 1minute and 6 seconds, while Glenn Allen and Damien Connolly were a further 28 second back in third .
Other Locals who made the long trip to Kerry included Willie Fannin and Mick Courtney who had a fraught event and could only manage 10th place in Class 4. David Roe and Robert Nolan in their beautiful Mk2 finished 5th in Class 13, while Ollie OReilly and Arthur Kierans finished 7th in this class. James Cassidy and Lisa Roe had an excellent 2nd in Class 12. Mickey Conlon forsake Latton to go to Kerry in search of National Championship points finishing 9th in Class 13 and Paul Elliott finished 15th in Class 4. Sadly the event was marred by a serious road traffic accident in the locality which left 3 young men dead and our sympathies go out to their families.
The next round of the Dunlop National Championship is in Monaghan on the 22nd of April.

Round 1 Wedlock Plant Hire Autocross Championship 21st January 2007.
Lipsett's Latton Masterclass.
The first round of the Mervyn Wedlock Plant Hire Autocross Championship 2007 got underway on a typical cold and wet Latton January morning, as usual most of the class regulars were there to battle it out again in 2007, but a delay in the arrival of new 2007 MSA Competition licences ended the hopes of a few. No such woes for the 2006 Junior Champion Stephen Lipsett as he blitzed the opposition setting fastest times on all three runs to take another Overall win his his little yellow Peugeot 106. Michael Conlon took his Mini to second and Tommy Donlon was third in his Peugeot.
Class 1 battle was extremely close all day with Michael Conlon in his Mini taking the nod from a hard charging Tommy Donlon in his Peugeot 106 with Alan Pickens taking third.
Class 2 was another very closely fought class with Stephen Wright starting off 2007 in a new car and a move up to a new class taking the victory from Ronan Rudden's Swift, with David Wright, taking 3rd.
Class 3 saw a change of motor for Sam Moffett as he rested his trusty Yamaha Buggy in favour of his new Peugeot 106 a change that took him to a class 3 win, with Martin Leonard also in a Peugeot second and a delighted Colm Fitzpatrick 3rd in his Honda Civic.
Class 4 with newly crowned 2006 Club and Quarry Champion Joseph Smith back in action he took his trusty Escort to the win with Stephen Kellet 2nd in his Peugeot 205.
Class 5 looks like its going to a very hotly contested Class in 2007, on this occasion Ollie O'Reilly took the win in his G3 Escort, from Stradone man Dessie Tierney in his little Tigra and Championship Sponsor Mervyn Wedlock in third place in his G4 Escort.
First of the Junior Competitors home was Stephen Wright with Jonathan Leonard on his first outing in Latton in second and Alan Gibbons took his slightly battered Honda Civic to a creditable third.
Ladies award went to Elaine Gilmartin in the company Civic while Emma Britton retired the Kenna 4x4 Nissan Sunny with gear selection problems.
